Popular in the 18th & 19th Centuries, Puzzle Purses combine origami & letter writing to beautiful effect and were originally used by sweethearts in England and America to exchange valentine's messages.
To make your own, follow along with my video below:
Instructions:
Cut a piece of paper to 21cm x 21cm (if you want to decorate it with paint or use fountain pen ink, test your paper first for suitability).
From the left, make a pencil mark (or score lightly) at 7cm. Do the same from the right, top and bottom of your paper.
Fold your paper as shown in the video below. Take your time and make sure your folds are accurate.
If you've made accurate folds, your puzzle purse should easily fold into place - like magic!
Once all the folding is complete, write a poem or message inside and decorate with coloured pencils or watercolours. You can even fit a small gift inside - a handmade bracelet, pressed flowers or tickets to an event - and finish with a wax seal, or tie with a pretty ribbon ♡
