Envelopes were not widely used in England until after the 1840’s, before then a letter was a single sheet of paper, written on, folded and sealed with wax. There are several ways to create these letterfolds, but I think the Diagonal or Corner Tuck is my favourite ♡ I love the shape it creates, a lovely frame to handwrite your address and especially pretty with vintage stamps.
The example below was written to the CEO of Royal Mail to ask him to support letterwriting, which brings so much happiness to so many people. If you want to write more letters, I can recommend joining one (or all!) of the wonderful organisations listed below.
